Long Island contains coffee shops a-plenty, nestled in the Island’s farthest corners, as well as in more central hubs.

Over the years, as more and more coffee shops and cafes have become notable, the tastes of Long Island residents have grown with the introduction of complex brewing and flavors. The shops listed below are just a handful of what the South Shore has to offer.

1. Massapequa Perk: Massapequa Perk was originally opened in 2008 at a prime location within Massapequa Park that allowed for both great traffic and an inviting atmosphere for locals. Whether they are waiting for a train at the Massapequa Park LIRR station or looking for a relaxing time enjoying freshly brewed coffee, Massapequa Perk has made a name for itself throughout Long Island.

Massapequa Perk has a sprawling menu, offering lattes, cappuccinos, espresso, and more. Coupled with a variety of teas to choose from, the coffee shop is a favorite of coffee fans as well as those who simply enjoy positive, warm atmospheres. Fresh handmade hot chocolate and snacks also appear on the menu.

2. Babylon Bean Coffee House: Babylon Bean Coffee House, as described on their website, emphasizes themselves as an eclectic coffee spot. The Bean hosts plenty of events, has games and live music, and is ultimately a relaxing spot that both the “coffee connoisseur” and the average coffee house-goer can enjoy.

On their menu is a large variety of coffees that are all ground in-house. Each day different roasts are offered, having been imported from all over the world to be roasted locally by the Bean. Asides from coffee there are smoothies, organic matcha, and other specialty drinks on the menu.

3. Morning Rose Cafe: Morning Rose Cafe in Bellmore doubles as a prized cafe and a gourmet brunch restaurant. Considered by themselves to have a “bed & breakfast” feel, Morning Rose Cafe is a local favorite.

Along with regularly updated specials, the Morning Rose Cafe has a brunch and coffee menu full of tasty foods and drinks. A variety of eggs served in different styles, buttermilk pancakes, and even more unique gourmet options like a gnocchi breakfast bowl are just some of what patrons can try. As for coffee, the menu is a bit more simplistic, with fresh cappuccinos and espressos among their most popular options.

4. Hampton Coffee Company: Hampton Coffee Company has an extensive reach throughout Long Island, and for good reason. This local chain provides some of the Island’s more flavorful coffees and coffee-lover hot spots, with ample room and seating both indoor and outdoor. The Southampton location, established in 2013, is particularly notable.

The green cafe is not only eco-friendly but pet-friendly as well, with a blend of modern and elegant decor. Hampton Coffee Company sources their Arabica Beans from plantations worldwide, believing the bean and its growing conditions to be a fundamental part of good coffee. Their coffee shops, featuring a roastmaster, roast by hand in small batches, bringing quality, fresh coffee to customers.

5. Kookaburra Coffee Company: Kookaburra Coffee Co. currently has two locations, one in Malverne, and one in Rockville Centre. Having first opened their doors in 2007, Kookaburra coffee brings professional, enjoyable coffees to thousands of LI residents.

The Malverne location was opened in 2018 as one of the area's few coffee shops. Their menu contains a variety of fresh coffee including espresso drinks, plenty of baked treats, and a select amount of teas. Coffees are sourced when in season, including Columbian and Indonesian coffees, and are roasted freshly.

6. Muni’s Coffee Joint: Muni’s Coffee Joint opened fairly recently in 2019, having established itself with residents as a space for great coffee, offering specialty coffees, to cold brew, to espresso and more.

The coffee shop is known for much more than just its coffee, however. Pastries, fruit dishes, and smoothies, as well as other menu items, are well-reviewed among patrons. Their specialty drinks, such as seasonal lattes, are also on rotation, with more to discover with each change of the menu.

7. Flux Coffee: Originally, Flux Coffee was established on the West Coast in Berkeley California, with roots mainly in cold brewing. Eventually, they moved to Farmingdale. Here, Flux Coffee sources ethically, saying on their website that they “believe strongly in providing an experience our local community deserves.”

Flux Coffee roasts weekly, with each cup brewed fresh. They feature Ethiopian Coffee beans among others as part of an ever-changing menu that promises to delight with its detail and flavors.

8. Rise & Grind Kitchen and Coffee Bar: Rise & Grind Kitchen and Coffee Bar mixes diner-like pleasures with its dedicated coffee bar, providing options for everyone, from those looking to eat out for breakfast or lunch, to those who want a good artisanal latte.

On their menu are organic, locally roasted coffee beans. These come in medium or dark blends and make up a bevy of latte options for customers. Several unique items also present themselves on the menu, such as their Rainbow Cookie Latte that blends almond and mocha with raspberry.
